The Caldwell Reading Program is easy to use.
Parents, senior citizens, and sixth grade students have been taught to use the
program with younger students. All have been very successful with
it. Most can be taught to use the program successfully in about two to
three hours of instruction.
There are three basic elements to teach: the sound each
consonant makes; the sound each of the higher-order units (units) makes, and
selected whole words. The major task for the instructor is to teach these
three elements to a igh level of performance and to teach the skill of blending
the consonants with the units to form words. The whole words and units are
to be learned as individual entities! THEY ARE NEVER TO BE SOUNDED
OUT NOR ARE THEY TO BE BROKEN INTO SMALLER ELEMENTS!
